It allows G.2 terminals to connect to TCP/IP hosts as if they were generic terminals. History In 1983, during the development of the G.2 standard, the US National Bureau of Standards published an RFC (RFC) concerning the implementation of the standard. The document (RFC 802) mentioned only that the server should be a TCP/IP host and that a G.2 terminal could then do a telnet connection. In 1990 the G.2 standard, including the G.2 RFC 802, was adopted by the CCITT. Since then, the term "G.2 client" or "G.2 telnet client" has been used in many discussions of G.2 for the purpose of distinguishing such a software client from a G.2 terminal itself.
